i should be accustomed to the very closed-mindedness of the supposedly open-minded student body of AHS. “open-minded”, my ass. i should give up; it’s not like anyone’s ever gonna want to talk to me in that class anyway. i’m the quiet, emo-lookin’ goody-goody clarinetist who has no life beyond textbooks and classical music. that’s how they see me. but what do i care, right? i’m the one who always says “who cares what other people think”. but you know it matters when it gets in the way of.. never mind. IT DOESN’T FUCKING MATTER. it’s not gonna happen. not now, not ever, so i’m just gonna stop fucking wasting my fucking energy. SHIT.

Please please please read this.

I know, I know, I’m probably the biggest band geek / music nerd at our school: I constantly talk about my instruments, make jokes about how my instruments are superior to other peoples’.. I freaking keep time with the turn signal and get frustrated when it’s not in synch with the stop light beeper thing. But despite all this, I do want the following to be taken seriously, because I really mean what I’m about to write.

The Albany High Jazz Band of ‘07-’08 is one of the best this school has ever seen, and definitely the best one I’ve had the honor to play with. Mr. Bryant says that we will probably never get a chance to play with a band at our level, which is probably true. With that being said, Jazz Band and Rhythm Bound will be performing at the Ashkenaz on Sunday, May 11th at 7 pm. This is going to be our last BIG concert [AHS-hosted concerts don’t count] of the year, so I want as many people as possible to show up. It’s only for two hours, one hour per band. You don’t even have to stay for the whole thing if you don’t want to, but I would really appreciate it if some of my friends were there for at least enough time to hear a couple of jazz tunes.

I realize there’s AP Testing this week, but you know what… a lot of band kids take multiple AP classes/Tests, too, and we have to spend FOUR hours at the Ashkenaz instead of ONE or TWO, like the audience members.

Also.. I don’t mean to sound conceited or full of myself when I say this, but this is one of the rare times when I get to play my clarinet in Jazz Band; not only that, but I have a solo as well. It means a helluv a lot to me; I’ve practiced that one piece for hours to play for an audience I’m hoping will consist of people I really care about. In the past, not many students showed up to our concerts, .. hell, my DAD hasn’t been to any of my concerts at all this year! So again, please make it to the show if you can. You’ll make me happy beyond words to fit into a blog post.
