Defero

I was dying when you called
Thank goodness it was you
But alas, you made it worse
You shot me through and through

Knowing it was something bad
I lessened to the ground
Shaking when you spoke those words
Like needles all around

My heart was pierced in every place
Your words so dark and bold
I used to turn to you for warmth
But now you’ve turned so cold

I got back up, still quivering
Weeping where I stood
I’d never abandon you
And yet I wish I could

Dimmer grows my blinding light
I see you’re all the same
Breaking every broken heart
For love is just a game

I used to think that only you
Were sweeter than your kiss
But sweeter was the taste of loss
How did it come to this?

You said that you loved me
“Always have and always will”
It echoes in my empty heart
That’s why I love you still

I forfeit you the game, my love
My dear, my only one
As a parting gift, I’ll grant your wish
And you’ll have me undone

A Life of Death

It’s finals week, and we all know what that means: questioning why the fuck we should be putting up with this bullshit.

The week itself isn’t exactly that bad. But with all the stress, the anxiety, the zits, the hair frizz, and the exploding of teh minds… iono, maybe there’s something wrong.

First of all, it’s school. It’s not life. We are not being bombed. Bush isn’t being re-elected. We’re not out of gasoline. The oceans aren’t flooding. The world is not ending.
It’s school.
So why all the insanity? Well, who could keep their heads screwed on right when we make such a big deal out of GPA.

Let’s redefine GPA a bit. I like to see it as a “Game Preferred by Asians”. It’s just a game. It will not dictate your life as much as they say it will. Then again, you probably already know that. You just don’t like to lose,  which is why you’re still in the game. But would you like to know what dictates your life? The conditioning of the school system. It controls you by telling you what’s important and what’s not:
Grades? Important. College? Important. Career? Important. Money? Important.
Environment?
Not so much.

I think of the school system as the reason why people are stupid. I don’t mean stupid as in we don’t know what the limit as x approaches infinity of f(x) is. I mean stupid, as in we’ve got our priorities fucked up pretty badly.

I’m sure we can all agree that the environment is the most important thing. Like, ever. So why do we insist on wasting papers on extra credit projects and such? Well, first of all, that’s how you beat the game. Secondly… oh wait, that’s the only reason, nvm ^-^

Clearly, I’m stuck in this game as well. It’s pretty addicting. Kinda like Halo 3 on XBox Live. You’re basically competing against yourself because you want to get your rank up, but at the same time you interact with other people. It’s selfish and social at the same time. Hot diggidy dog diggidy…you know the rest.

But seriously, why is GPA so important? Well, it’s part of your ingredients list, which also includes your SAT scores, extra curriculars, and teacher recommendations. You’re a lotion. Colleges spend “hours” staring at your ingredients and reading your package claims before they decide that you might work out for them.

Then after they’re through using you, you get your degree (For lotions, this would be a five star product review on Amazon.com). Then you get a job and you make money.

Tah dah! That’s all, folks.

Make. Money.

So you’re like twenty something now, and this is what your life has lead up to. You have less than a 3/4 of your life left, and this is what you do for the rest of it: make money! And at the very tail end, you get to retire! And then you die.

Someone please tell me I’m wrong. I’m a teenager. My body is going through huge hormone wars, and I have to stress about winning the GPA. Tell me I’m wrong, that I’m dealing with all this bullshit just to make money, which I don’t take much of an interest in.

Why do I have to go to school now? Why not suffer through high school when I’m twenty, and my brain is almost fully grown?

I’ll tell you why. The system wants to pump all the work out of you. They want as many years of work out of your life as they can possibly get away with. That means you have to get a degree earlier in life so you can spend more years working your ass off so you can (a) make money and (b) contribute to the system.

Folks, don’t take this all in at once. It’s a lot to handle. This is your life summary. Nothing more, nothing less.

This is all you exist for.

The system.

Missing

Days secretly escape
Disappearing one by one
Soundless footsteps fading
While silently, they run

Learning how to be alone
There’s nowhere else to go
This is what you wanted
And this is what you’ll know

She’s still there, calling you
Affliction to your name
Ringing in your silent cove
Bedeviling your shame

She sings resounding melodies
The lyrics of her plea
“Isn’t something missing?
Isn’t someone missing me?”

Chained down, but uncontrolled
Emotions fade to grey
Memories can’t save you now
They’ve turned and gone away

Days secretly escape
Laughing as they flee
“Isn’t something missing?
Isn’t someone missing me?”

Consumerism

Our enormously productive economy… demands that we make consumption our way of life, that we convert the buying and use of goods into rituals, that we seek our spiritual satisfaction, our ego satisfaction, in consumption… We need things consumed, burned up, worn out, replaced, and discarded at an ever increasing rate.
- Victor Lebow, 1955

The majority of Facebook users participating in US Politics agrees that both the Republican and Democratic debates focused mainly on economy.  Hillary says we are going into a recession, or at least heading into that direction. The other Democrats agree, and they say that discovering alternative energy fuel could boost the economy by employing millions of Americans (I don’t know how, but that’s what they said).

I think they’re missing another part. They’re missing the “golden arrow”, or the arrow pointing from retail stores to people like you: consumers. Not only will green energy employ many more people, but it will also assist consumerism. Wouldn’t you be more encouraged to buy a car if you knew that you wouldn’t be depleting the world of its resources? Wouldn’t you happily trade your current car in for a green machine? For those people who want to be more green but don’t want to sacrifice transportation, here is your answer: buy a new car.

And keep buying new things until you satisfy your ego. Carelessly cycle through products. Update your old stuff to green stuff. Sooner or later, you will find that you’re not helping the earth any more than you did before. You’re just trashing the planet and supporting big corporations in their quest to make more money.

But then again, you don’t really have a choice, do you? Your old car will not be able to use green fuel, and America will either raise the price of gasoline or refuse to sell it to you. People will look down on you because you don’t have the green products they have, meaning you’re not as good as they are. But let me tell you that you do have a choice. You can use public transportation. You can carpool. You can walk, you can run, and you can bike. And if you can’t do those things, then know that death is also an option.

Death is green, too. But they don’t tell you, because people want to avoid death. Also, they want more people to be alive to consume more products and keep the economy going. The economy thrives on consumerism, and consumerism thrives on living people. Not dead people. The environment thrives on living people, too, but only a moderate amount. Obviously, interest in the economy would be bigger than the interest in the environment. And it is.

I honestly hope the people change their minds about the environment. It should be top priority. Then again, I also can’t wait when we destroy our planet, because I know I will still be here to laugh at us.
