Metronome

She smiles up at you by her side
Tell her that the doctor lied
Even though she’s paler than the moon
Shining bright as white outside

Find the rhythm, find the start
Follow the beeping of her heart
Like a metronome, write those tunes
write them so she’ll have a favorite part

Sing louder than the background noises
People chatting, children running, nurses walking, doctors talking
Sing louder so she cannot hear you cry
Don’t tell her why
Don’t tell her why she’s dying

Find yourself within a sigh
Find a song to match the sky
Just play around until you find the notes
That make you feel like you can fly

So this is where the angels roam
Slower plays the metronome
Isn’t this the place where you breathed in and out,
You said that this was home.
